James J. Schiro is Chief Executive Officer of Zurich Financial Services (Zurich). He joined Zurich as Chief Operating Officer – Group Finance in March 2002 and at the same time became a Member of the Group Executive Committee. He subsequently was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Zurich in May 2002.

James J. Schiro joined Zurich after a long career with PricewaterhouseCoopers. In 1995 he was elected Chief Executive Officer of Price Waterhouse, and in 1998 he led the merger of Price Waterhouse and Coopers & Lybrand to form PricewaterhouseCoopers, the largest global professional services firm.

James J. Schiro is active in various professional, international and civic organisations. These activities include: Member of the Board of Directors of PepsiCo, Vice-Chairman of the Swiss-American Chamber of Commerce, and Member of the Business Council of the World Economic Forum. He is also a Member of the Board of Trustees of the Lucerne Festival in addition to serving as Vice-Chairman of the American Friends of the Lucerne Festival. Furthermore, he is a Member of the Foundation Board of IMD, Lausanne, as well as a Member of the Boards of Trustees of the Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton, and of St. John’s University.

James J. Schiro graduated from St. John’s University, New York, with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1967. He is also a graduate of Dartmouth College, The Amos Tuck School Executive Program, and a Certified Public Accountant. In 1995 he received an Honorary Doctorate of Commercial Sciences from St. John’s University.
