The third EFR Stakeholder Round Table on 5 and 6 March 2012 in Brussels
The third EFR Stakeholder Round Table on 5 and 6 March 2012 in Brussels brought together more than 40 top-level EU- and national level officials, central bankers, supervisors, policy makers and EFR Members, Chairmen and Chief Executives of leading European banks and insurance companies, for a lively closed-door debate on 'the future financial landscape of Europe'. Keynote speeches and introductory remarks were held from, inter alia, high level representatives from supervisory authorities, regulators and international organisations.
In its first session on whether 'the future financial landscape of Europe is fit for purpose to guarantee the financing of economic growth?' the debate focused on the need for a clear vision of Europe to achieve growth, a strengthening of the single market and a financial integration considering unexpected impacts of European regulations and a change in the business models of banks and insurers in the light of the reforms and the crisis.
The second session titled 'European financial supervisory and regulatory reform - is Europe on track?' featured topics such as the implementation and calibration of an enhanced European supervision for banks and insurers to achieve more convergence, flexibility and transparency, and whether the macro- and micro-prudential supervisory and regulatory architecture is fit for purpose to ensure financial stability and economic integration.
