Ewald Kist
Chairman
ING Group

Ewald Kist is chairman of the Executive Board of Amsterdam-based ING Group. ING is a global financial institution of Dutch origin with 115,000 employees. ING offers banking, insurance and asset management to 60 million clients in 60 countries.

Ewald Kist began his career in 1969 with Nationale-Nederlanden, one of ING’s predecessor companies. Through the years, Kist held several managerial positions within the Group. In 1989 Ewald Kist became a member of the general management for the Netherlands, of which he was appointed Chairman in 1991. Since 1993 he has been a member of the Executive Board of ING Group, of which he was appointed Vice-Chairman as of 1 April 1999. Ewald Kist was appointed Chairman of the Executive Board as of 2 May 2000. Ewald Kist will retire on 1 June 2004, having reached the retirement age of 60.

Kist holds a large number of varied secondary posts. Among other things, he is a Board member of the International Insurance Society (New York), the Confederation of Netherlands Industry and Employers (known as VNO-NCW), the Netherlands’ Red Cross and of the Dutch National Victims Aid Fund. He is a Member of the Geneva Association.

Ewald Kist served as a lieutenant in the Dutch army. Born in the Netherlands in 1944, he received a Master’s Degree in Dutch Law from Leiden University, the Netherlands, in 1967.

Kist and his wife, Ammy, are the parents of five children.
